Record amount of unwanted agvet chemicals registered in Queensland

Published: 02-07-2021

Over 74,000 litres of agvet chemicals have been registered for collection in QLD.

Registrations for the Queensland ChemClear collection have now closed and the numbers are in.

The total amount of unwanted or obsolete agvet chemcials that have been registered by Queensland farmers and businesses has reached over 74,000 litres of product. This is the single largest amount ever recorded for a state collection since the program began.

Following the announcement that the Queensland Department of Environment and Science would co-fund the collection of Group 2 Chemicals (chemicals that are not part of the drumMUSTER program, or have been deregistered or expired more than two years), there was a large uptake of farmers wanting to safely dispose of their chemicals through the program.

ChemClear collections are a significant logistical undertaking that involves multiple groups working together. From regional and metro shire councils, industry bodies and grower groups through to farming organisations, State Governments and media outlets, all have helped play a part in providing agvet chemical users with a responsible disposal pathway for their unwanted chemicals.

The next ChemClear collection is scheduled for New South Wales in early 2022. Registrations can be made at any time at: www.chemclear.org.au/register-your-chemical
